Winter Wonders in the Backcountry
Big winter storms dumped a plethora of fresh snow across the mountains of Colorado. This past weekend, I decided to make the trek up to Steamboat Springs to visit some friends and get my share of the snow. We did some quick laps, skinning up a ridge near Buffalo Pass, then skiing down through the open aspen glades in knee to thigh-deep champagne powder. It was my first foray into true backcountry touring, and I was blown away with the beauty of just being out there with no one around you, fresh snow all to yourself below you, and friends at your side sharing the smiles.
