Enjoying Ski Vacations In Vail and maybe some Hitler wants to ski pow at Vail
by Gord McKenna
One of the top ski resorts in the USA, Vail is a wonderful place to enjoy your vacation. Located in Colorado, it is the largest single mountain ski resort in the country. Featuring seven bowls and gladed terrain, the resort provides a world class experience from sports to activities, entertainment and accommodations. For skiers seeking out out the world’s top destinations, Vail is a must-visit destination.
Vail has some similarities to major ski resorts in Europe. The resort, which looks like a quaint old village on first impression, is full of ski shops, high-end fashion stores and fine-dining restaurants where you can grab a quick bite to eat. Like European resorts, it covers a wide stretch, with three different areas of the mountain, three terrain parks, seven bowls and more than 5,000 acres of free ride terrain.
The resort is tailor-made for ski vacations, with a plethora of activities for all ages, both on and off the slopes. The resort has great skiing for all skill levels. Vail Mountain has the most high speed quads on a single mountain in the United States. Lift status signs are located at key points on the mountain to help skiers avoid long lift lines.
A large part of the terrain is beginner or intermediate standard. These trails tend to be wide open and un-intimidating with state-of-the-art snow-making to keep the trails well covered. The tree line is high, in fact much higher than the Alps, so the slopes are cut through pleasant woodland. The key access route on to the mountain outside the town itself is the Lionshead Gondola, put up in the year 1996 with a multi-million dollar investment.
A slew of off-slope activities available in the resort include heated outdoor swimming pools, hot tubs, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, squash courts, indoor volleyball and basketball courts. Beginners can find state-of-the-art ski lesson programs. As soon as you have a little confidence, you can practice in the dedicated beginner skiing area. Intermediate skiers can safely tackle some of the easier runs in the Back Bowls.
The terrain park at the Eagles Nest at the top of Vail Mountain can be accessed at night by the Lionshead gondola. Several snowboard parks and features are also dotted around the mountain. Hot Dog Park has metal and wood sliders while Beaver Creek’s Strickline Snowboard Park is set amongst the trees in a natural wooded terrain. Golden Peak Park is Colorado’s only double barrel super pipe.
The vastness of Vail resort makes skiing solo a bad idea, so make sure you have at least one companion. Moving around the vast resort is relatively easy because 32 mostly high-speed lifts. Sun Down, Sun Up, China and Siberia Bowls together add up to more than 3500 acres offering primarily expert skiing. Some lifts offer a good combination of all ability levels, a perfect setup for families or groups of different skiing skill levels.
You can enjoy a thrilling ski vacation rental in Vail, located in Colorado in the United States. The resort offers over 5,000 skiable acres of terrain for all skier skill levels and Vail Village offers incredible food and entertainment to maximize your enjoyment when you are off the slopes.
