How to Find Lodging for Your Ski Vacation and maybe some Mountain Village, Telluride
While thoughts of flying down the mountain might dance through your mind when you think of planning a ski vacation, there are other considerations you have to think about. In all likelihood, you’re going to be flying to your destination, and you’re going to have to decide on lodging while you’re there. If you book and all-inclusive ski trip, lodging and any ski-related rentals you need will probably be included in the package. In these cases, you may have to take whatever the package includes, as all-inclusive trips generally offer substantial savings over paying for it all separately.
If you aren’t able to find a good all-inclusive deal, you’ll have to dig a little deeper to find the kind of lodging you want while you’re gone. In most ski resort towns, there are a number of possibilities available to you. Since ski resorts are purely vacation destinations, you can be certain that there will be a number of regular hotels for you to choose from. A basic hotel will probably cost you less than other lodging options, but you won’t get the full ski vacation experience. Many people who look for rentals on a ski trip look beyond just the basic hotel or motel to something a little more elaborate.
To get the classic ski trip kind of feel, condo rentals or ski lodges are a common choice. You can probably find condos in different areas of the town, or right on the hill if you want to spend more. Ski lodges are also an option that is often located right on the hill for the classic kind of feel. That’s not to say you have to sit around a fire sipping hot chocolate every night if you choose a lodge or condo, but it will probably make your stay more comfortable. Rentals such as condos that have a kitchen will also enable you to make your own food if you so desire. That will save money on eating out at restaurants and allow you more time for rest and recuperation after a long day on the slopes.
Whichever kind of lodging you ultimately choose can usually be arranged with your travel agent, online or however you book your trip. It is important to arrange your accommodations before you actually get to your destination, because if it is a busy time of year or there is a convention or other gathering in town, you may be out of luck.
You definitely wouldn’t want to have to settle for a room that’s farther away from the hill than you want it to be. Finding rentals that are closer to the ski hill will cut down on your commuting time and give you more time doing what you came there to do, which is ski. Just be sure to ask lots of questions when booking your trip, so you end up with the kind of lodging you want, and a ski trip to remember.

Mountain Village, Telluride

Mountain Village is so efficient. We had a ski-in/ski-out slope near our lodge, but as most of us were beginners, we could take dial-a-ride back and forth to the gondola, take the gondola down to the ski village or over to Telluride. Once in Telluride, we could use the free "Galloping Goose" shuttle that drove around town. It’s a really wonderful public transit system that works so well.
